SCORM TROUBLESHOOTING & COURSE QA

The course looks finished.
The LMS disagrees.

A course that will not launch, record completion, report a score or resume needs a clear diagnosis. Elearnsy investigates the package, publishing choices and learner journey to help identify the cause.

Make the fault repeatable.

What did the learner do?
What should the LMS have recorded?
What happened instead?
Scoped clearly. Quoted before work begins.

Follow the problem through the whole journey.

A package can contain all the expected files and still report the wrong result. We agree the expected behaviour first, then test the points where the course and LMS exchange information.

Launch and package

Check the publishing format, manifest and launch references. Reproduce upload or launch failures in the environment where they occur.

Completion and score

Review the course’s selected tracking rules, pass criteria and reporting options against what the LMS is expected to record.

Exit and resume

Test a partial attempt, exit and return, then a completed attempt. Capture the steps and outcomes so a proposed repair can be checked.

A useful first check you can do now.

Run the ZIP through SCORM Check & Compare to inspect the manifest and file references. It runs in your browser and can compare an earlier release. It does not launch the course or prove LMS tracking works.

Articulate recommends testing in a reference environment such as SCORM Cloud to help distinguish a content issue from an LMS-specific issue. Share confidential content with another service only when you have permission. Read Articulate’s troubleshooting guidance.

Send evidence, not just “it does not work”.

Include the LMS name, publishing format, course version, affected device or browser, exact steps, expected result and what you observed. A screenshot of the LMS result and the source file, if available, can make the first review more useful.
BEFORE WE START

A few practical questions.

Does passing the free checker mean a course is SCORM compliant?

No. It is a package inspection tool. Runtime launch, scoring, completion and resume still need testing in the intended LMS.

Is completion the same as passing?

No. Completion describes finishing the required activity; success describes whether a learner passed. The selected publishing and reporting options need to match the result your LMS expects.

Can every fault be fixed in the course?

Some faults belong to the LMS, its configuration or the delivery environment. Where that is the case, the useful result is clear reproduction steps and evidence for the relevant provider.

Test the whole journey before release.

Use the SCORM testing checklist to cover launch, unfinished attempts, failure, passing, exit, resume and course updates. It includes the evidence to capture when something goes wrong.

A rough outline is enough to start.

Tell us what you have, who it is for and what needs to work better. We will review the outline and agree a sensible next step.
